The Center for the Advancement of Service-Learning Excellence (CASLE) is a shared endeavor among the Office of the Provost, the Division of Student Affairs, and the MSU Extension Service, designed to create partnerships between the campus and the community to promote service-learning. CASLE staff work with MSU faculty, staff, and students as well as members of the MSU Extension Service including county coordinators, area agents, and research specialists.

The mission of CASLE is to provide opportunities for research, learning, and service for members of the MSU, local, statewide, and international communities. Service-learning students collaborate with community partners to serve Mississippi, the region, and individuals from across the globe. These efforts enhance academic learning through hands-on experience. More information on CASLE and service-learning at MSU can be found by at www.servicelearning.msstate.edu .

“S” Designation

The “S” designation identifies academic courses that will incorporate service-learning. A Service-Learning Advisory Committee (SLAC) reviews and approves service-learning courses to determine which will be given the “S” designation. Students can find the “S” designation on the class schedule as they register for academic coursework. A comment will be noted on student transcripts indicating that the student participated in a service-learning course.
